Two days ago, I experienced a jolt of reality that so affected me that I had to share it with everyone.
Please find the time to visit this website or do a search for modern day slavery. It will surprise you, and hopefully horrify you. http://www.iabolish.org/index.html.
Today, as we mistreat the holiday set aside to rejoice in the victory over the travesty of slavery, our brothers and sisters the world over are still in bondage, including China, where in a week's time the world will convene for the Olympics all a-glee. We need to be aware, pray for the true abolition, and do something about it!
A close friend said that he once encountered an angry black man who was indignant of the mention of slavery outside the context of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. That nothing can compare to what transpired 250 years ago. I hope that is not a prevailing view. The dehumanization of any human being is a travesty... one, one hundred, one thousand, one million. It's just like sin, is sin, is sin. Additionally, like as of old, today, some of our African cousins are both victims and perpetrators in this sadistic lesson well learnt.
In any case, after reading about how I might have purchased products made by modern-day slaves, and reading the testimonies of some who escaped their captors, and how persons under servitude were found in Florida and Haiti, I wondered, could we have slaves here? in The Bahamas??
i sure hope not!
